Sheesh. This used to be a good site to read some relatively even-handed analysis of the electorate. Now it's become Fox News for Hillary supporters.
Hillary Clinton is a fine candidate, and I weighed my options very carefully before deciding to support Obama. Why? I couldn't get past her vote on Iraq, was a little uncomfortable with a Bush - Clinton - Bush - Clinton cycle, and I thought Obama has the best chance to win in November. Now, please, let's debate these issues. I don't think my view is the only legitimate one.
I'm politically active in an area that is split between many Obama supporters and Clinton supporters. I don't know any Obama voters that are 'cultlike' or dazzled by his personality. They are mostly long-time democrats that have chosen to support him for very rational reasons.
Are there college kids who are batty over Obama? Of course, that's what college kids do. And frankly, it's a good thing - maybe a little more of that would have helped out John Kerry. Could this have happened for Hillary if Obama wasn't running this year - there is no way of knowing now.
I was at a restaurant, here in Southern California, and I saw a middle-aged woman rip an Obama sign off the front window and complain to the manager that they were 'Star F*ckers'. To do that after an election has already happened here is ludicrous, and exhibits behavior that could even be described as 'cultlike'. Not that I'd make any generalizations based on an individual incident.
The level of condescension, the parroting of negative talking points, and the amount of magical rationalization / wishful thinking here is really embarrassing for a site that claims to be advocates for the democratic party.
Bottom line, all of the negative bonding about Obama that goes down here is embarrassing, and deeply out of touch with nature of his electoral coalition. Jerome Armstrong should know better than to put aside his objectivity and to fan it. The good dems here, some of whom might be wishing their candidate was having an easier ride during her candidacy should think about taking a more careful look at why Obama supporters made the choice they did.
